Urban Motor, Berlin

by capetowndiva

Are you a biker visiting Berlin? Don’t miss Urban Motor , a cool petrolhead destination in the middle of the city. As per their website – “Far away from power mania and knee dragging, we offer exclusive motorcycles in old and new metal. We’re dedicated to traditional values, inspired by the pulse of former times and living this dream in the centre of Berlin”. That’s it, in a nutshell.

(I’ve just returned from a trip to Italy that included a few two wheel adventures of my own- touring in Rome on Vespa, with Scooteroma, and then a day trip from Bellagio around Lake Como with Aimto and up into the mountains on a BMW 800GS motorbike. Spectacular! (I was inspired to update this post I made in 2015) >

I followed my husband Paul van der Spuy there one drizzly morning in 2015 as he had arranged to meet Peter, the UM’s ideas man and store visionary, in charge of merchandising and product, custodian of the brand. The shop is stylish and well laid out but it’s the workshop next door that gets biker hearts racing, the space where vintage bikes, hand-made in old and new metal, get given new life through considered craftsmanship and aesthetics.

Urban Motor is made up of a team of dedicated purists driven by a passion for motorcycles, BMW two-valve Boxers in particular. They tweak the design and re-build them…mechanical upcycling of sorts.
