Summer picnic at Springfield Wine Estate

Taking the day for a picnic with the girls

by capetowndiva
It was a sweltering Wine Wednesday that called for taking the day. And what better than a picnic at Springfield,  a premium wine estate that’s a quick 15 minute drive from McGregor Village to one of my favourite wine destinations in the valley.
Think al fresco feasting under under the trees- a long table laden with tapas that we paired with a bottle of the luscious Wholeberry & the expressive Life from Stone.
My revelation of the day though, was the ambrosial Albariño, a bright & full bodied white wine with apricot, nectarine & floral aromas that I absolutely loved. Crisp perfection on a hot summer’s day.
Except for the wine, it’s a BYO situation- they provide the tables, chairs & loungers. You bring the banquet.
FYI, Springfield is in Robertson just off the R317, a quick 20 mins from McGregor village where I live. It’s a Bruwer family-owned & run farm, circa 1898. We were delighted to run into winemaker Abri Bruwer & his energetic trio of motorbike savvy hounds. Read more here about Abri & his marvellous vino here (thanks to Michael Olivier!).
The farm is open Mon-Fri from 09h-17h, Saturdays from 09h to 15h and closed on Sundays. For directions, click here.
Until next time,
