The day began in picturesque Kalk Bay, about 30 minutes drives from Cape Town on the M3. The wind was howling on the drive out from the City…perched on the back of @lateralpaul ‘s superbike, I felt like Fred Baumgarten in free fall …the strength of the wind was insane! Once we arrived though, it was perfect, just a gentle breeze. We had breakfast at Sirocco, one of the restaurants belonging to my client Michael Townsend. See the pics below for our menu choices: an omelette with pan fried mushrooms, Danish feta, rocket & basil pesto, & Greek yoghurt with muesli & fresh fruit, drizzled with honey…
Kalk Bay (Afrikaans: Kalkbaai) is a fishing village on the coast of False Bay, South Africa and is now a suburb of greater Cape Town. It lies between the ocean and sharply rising mountainous heights that are buttressed by crags of grey sandstone. A literal translation from the Dutch/Afrikaans name “Kalkbaai” is “Lime Bay”. Many of the surrounding caves were formed below the water table, where water chemically weakened the structure of the sandstone and streams bore the loosened grain of sand away. The railway from the central business district of Cape Town to Simon’s Town passes through Kalk Bay and in some places the line is only metres from the water’s edge. The Kalk Bay stop is right at Sirocco…tres convenient *
